Intergalactic FM website launches, with changed line-up

It's up, in a slightly changed form from the mysterious original plan, with 2 stations - The Dream Machine playing darker electronics, and Intergalactic Classix, which "...is all dedicated to Classix sounds. From Megahits to obscure fleemarket findings...". Look forward to hearing more soundtracks and library stuff too.

Delia Derbyshire and Barry Bermange - The Dreams

Intergalactic FM played a whole bunch of Italian soundtrack rough funk earlier on, and then dropped the temperature a million degrees by playing "Falling" from "The Dreams" by Delia Derbyshire and Barry Bermange.

I thought I had the lot, all the Delia Derbyshire bits floating around the ether, but it was the first time I've heard this, sounding utterly terrifying - a series of cut-up voices talking about dreams against a minimal electronic backdrop. Vaguely reminds of the also-very-scary "I before E except after C" by Yazoo.

It was broadcast in 1964 on The Third Programme (shit, great name for a band that - shame it's taken by, um, this), but no need for a time machine: the always great Mutant Sounds blog has the five tracks, complete with evocative AM radio buzz and hum.

Intergalactic FM launches

Always loved and much-missed Holland-based electronic/disco/soundtracks radio station the Cybernetic Broadcasting System is reborn as Intergalactic FM with two out of three streams up and running at the moment - IFM2 is "The Dream Machine", featuring around the clock space, soundtracks and electronics, whilst IFM3 is "Intergalactic Classix" featuring loads of electro, Italo and hiphop.

Sounds great so far - I was cynical about splitting off the spacey, soundtracky stuff off from the typical Italo and disco classics, but it's been working out pretty well so far.

Short Bus Radio with Speculator - electro/disco and all that

"On the Short Bus you will hear electronic music made with old synthesizers and drum machines, including disco (classic, italo, canadian), new wave, chicago house & acid, detroit techno stuff, freaked out weirdness, electro, a little bit of freestyle and miami bass, and the occasional guilty pleasure record.."

Lots of good stuff on this weeks' Short Bus Radiokicking off with New Order in authentic-sounding dub, then moving through some old favourites like Bobby Womack's sublime theme for "Across 110th Street", Soft Cell's cutting "Bedsitter" - the 12" featuring the classic "do you look a mess?/do you have a hangover?" breakdown and ESG's Martin Hannett-produced "UFO" at slowed to hiphop tempo from the Ultimate Breaks and Beats LP.

The Clash's "Mustapha Dance" was a find, being a slightly dubbed-out (and much less irritating) version of "Rock the Casbah", boosting that joyful funky-twiddly bassline that was hiding under the layers. Never been a fan of The Clash particularly, but I must investigate "Super Black Market Clash", "The Magnificent Dance" is a killer too.

Also really liked the Grackle track - been trying to find the TKeeler and Capablanca rework of "Jungle" for a while now, gives me the feeling of a warm summer drawing to a close, in place of the cold and wet one we've had. It's finally popped up in digital on zero-inch. and it's also on the Discos Capablanca Myspace.
