Get that bleedin' kettle on

That cost $3.2million, you can't do it in a week

I finally quit after walking out of a berating meeting from a boss who reckoned I'd done a project too fast and produced an executable that was too small. "We quoted them three point two million for this. We can't give them a 500 Kb executable after a week and say it's done".

from "London Stock Exchange to abandon failed Windows platform" - in this case less about Windows and more about the consultancy, I'd say.

Richard Williams on burnout in women's tennis

No child should be pinned down, running from country to country, from state to state. I wouldn't do it. If you go back and look at Martina Hingis, Justine Henin, you look at Kim Clijsters and other girls. Why is it they had to quit at 25? Tennis has burned you out, tennis will kill you. Venus is 29, she is ready to play. She didn't burn out at an early age.

Richard Williams, quoted from the BBC's Wimbledon Live page.

Gakken SX-150 MIDI'd-up with an Arduino

mrbook has hacked together a MIDI input for his Gakken SX-150 stylophone-ish synth with an Arduino and the barest minimum of support circuitry, and it sounds rather great. He's posted some further details on his blog. (via Matrixsynth)

Robert Rental and The Normal live - video clip from 1979

Via Gutterbreakz, archive footage of Robert Rental and The Normal playing live with a Wasp (and the Korg 700s?) and tapes in 1979. Not sure that this is the "Live at West Runton Pavillion" performance; if it is, the track on the video has had the intro chopped about a bit. My heart skips slightly to think that the rest of the performance might be around somewhere - surely Mute would have put it out by now, though?

Also a great bit of film in there from what looks to be the address on the back of the early Mute sleeves, Decoy Avenue, with their tapes and wires and batteries home studio.

While I'm on the obsessional Mute thing; been listening to TVOD far too closely and you can clearly hear that one of the channel he's switching between is "The Good Life". You can hear Penelope Keith going "Barbara I rea-".

OK, kill me now.

The final Capri

Our man Neil Campbell in purportedly the final ever (and rather underwhelming looking) Capri, a Capri 280, from the recent track day at Castle Coombe, documented at Flickr by jimincov.

The Upper Precinct, under construction

This shot, looking towards Broadgate is from a wonderful set of pictures on Flickr called Coventry and Bablake School 1955-1962, including some of the Queen's visit to Broadgate and larking about smoking fags at Bablake.

I'm late as ever - Snoop: "Sensual Seduction"

Right then; we have here the high-watermark of the art, Snoop's oddly techno-y "Sensual Seduction". His shimmying is classic, and the VHS-effected degradation (which comes over much better than on YouTube) works really well. I can't stop playing it.

Freaky tape looping in a Roland Space Echo

...in my RE-201, it's oddly mesmerising. That noise (apart from the squeaking) is the sound of a x0xb0x 303-clone.
